1. The importance of DT.975 in the context of APEC 2027

The APEC 2027 conference opens up opportunities for Phu Quoc to affirm its position as a center for infrastructure, tourism, and conferences of international caliber. As an island famous for its natural landscapes and tourism potential, Phu Quoc is urgently completing transportation projects, urban areas, airports, hotels, and convention centers to meet international standards and serve the needs of thousands of delegates and tourists.

Having synchronized, modern road networks connecting the airport, island center, tourist areas, and event venues is a decisive factor to ensure APEC 2027 runs smoothly. Good transportation not only facilitates convenient transport but also enhances Phu Quoc's image, creating an impression of a modern, dynamic, and professional destination.

Among these, the provincial road DT.975 project is a key project, likened to the "traffic backbone" of Phu Quoc island. This road not only connects urban areas, the airport, convention centers, and tourist areas but also plays a strategic role in promoting socio-economic development, forming synchronized, modern urban axes.

2.1 Location, route direction, and planning of the provincial road DT.975

Provincial road DT.975 is currently one of the key infrastructure projects serving APEC 2027 in Phu Quoc, acting as a strategic connection axis between the island center – airport – Bai Truong – An Thoi. The project is invested and constructed by Sun Group Corporation, with a total length of 19.26 km and a total investment of 1,632 billion VND, forming a continuous traffic route from DT.973 to Phu Quoc International Airport and then extending further south.

Regarding the route direction, DT.975 starts from DT.973, passes through Phu Quoc International Airport – an important gateway for international guests and APEC delegates – before seamlessly connecting to Bai Truong, a large-scale hotel and resort complex, and the An Thoi area, the southern island's tourism and service center. This is also the main access route to the APEC 2027 Convention Center, playing the backbone role of the event's infrastructure system.

The road structure is planned to be modern with a right-of-way of 62 m, a minimum of 6 lanes, and also reserves 15 m of land for a future tramway, in line with the orientation of building Phu Quoc into an "international tourism and event city" with multimodal transportation.

DT.975 also directly connects to APEC Avenue – a 3 km long road with a 68 m cross-section – serving as the reception – event route to bring delegates from the airport and urban areas to the APEC 2027 Convention Center.

Notably, the entire DT.975 route extends to the areas of Duong Dong – Cua Lap – Bai Truong – An Thoi – Bai Kem, forming a complete North-South axis:

  • Section Duong Dong – Cua Lap 9.5 km long, 12 m roadbed, 42 m right-of-way, Class III road (plains – hills), with a 30 m wide green belt on both sides.
  • Section Cua Lap – An Thoi 16 km long, 26 m roadbed, 50 m right-of-way, Class III road (mountainous area) (cross-section equivalent to Class II), with a median strip and green belt totaling 24 m; simultaneously, a tramway track is arranged on the right side of the route.
  • Section An Thoi – Bai Kem 1.5 km long, 8.5 m roadbed, 21 m right-of-way, meets Class IV road standards (mountainous area), with a green system on both sides totaling 12.5 m.

With its synchronized scale and wide connectivity range, DT.975 becomes a new development axis for Phu Quoc, creating momentum for the formation of mixed-use tourism urban areas, commercial – service centers, entertainment systems, and night-time economy models. This is an important foundation for Phu Quoc not only to host APEC 2027 but also to achieve breakthrough development in the long term.

2.2. Strategic Role of DT.975

The DT.975 road is not just an ordinary road — it is planned to be a strategic transportation axis, the backbone connecting most of the important endpoints of Phu Quoc island, especially in the context of preparing for the APEC 2027 event.

Firstly, DT.975 is an important link connecting Phu Quoc International Airport — a hub for receiving and transporting delegates, international guests, and tourists — with the rest of the island. Thanks to DT.975, travel from the airport to the island center, urban areas, tourist areas, or event venues becomes more convenient, helping to ensure safety, speed, and professionalism when receiving a large number of people for the APEC occasion.

Moreover, DT.975 is also the "tail-end" connecting axis of Phu Quoc: from the urban center to the southern development areas - such as resort areas, tourist areas, conference centers, resorts, services - including the An Thoi area, beaches, resorts, service areas, marinas,... This helps enhance connectivity between urban - tourism - service sub-regions, facilitating synchronized development. With that orientation, the provincial road DT.975 becomes the "urban backbone" — the foundation for the formation and development of urban, real estate, resort, commercial center, and service projects — while also supporting the organization of large-scale activities, conferences, and high-end tourism when Phu Quoc hosts APEC 2027.

Furthermore, in an effort to prepare for APEC 2027, local authorities have resolutely carried out site clearance, refurbishment, and cleaning of the "gateway" DT.975: dismantling billboards, canopies, fences, and encroaching structures — to ensure traffic corridors, safety, aesthetics, and timely progress of related projects.

Thus, upon completion, DT.975 will not just be a road — but a strategic development axis that helps reshape the transportation, urban, tourism — service landscape of Phu Quoc, playing a key role in transforming the "pearl island" into a modern, synchronized destination capable of hosting APEC 2027 and future international events.

3. Provincial Road DT.975 in the Context of APEC 2027

As one of the key infrastructure projects serving APEC 2027, the provincial road DT.975 plays a particularly important role in upgrading transportation capacity and perfecting the urban appearance of Phu Quoc. According to many reports, the section DT.973 – Phu Quoc International Airport – DT.975 – DT.973 is being accelerated for construction, with the ground basically cleared. Within the network of projects serving APEC 2027, DT.975 is considered the "main traffic artery", not only ensuring the operational capacity of the infrastructure for the event but also expanding the development space of the island city.

3. 1. Increasing transportation capacity – shortening travel time between hubs

Upon completion, DT.975 will create a fast and continuous transit axis from Phu Quoc International Airport through Duong Dong, Cua Lap, Bai Truong to An Thoi and the APEC Conference Center Area. This is a particularly important traffic route, significantly shortening travel time between key transportation – urban – tourism hubs. For the APEC 2027 event, this road will ensure separate, coherent, and safe movement for delegates and international guests from the airport to the hotel area and conference center.

3.2 . Formation of new urban – tourism spaces along the APEC axis

With a 62m right-of-way, at least 6 lanes, and a 15m land reserve for the urban railway line, DT.975 is planned as a “development avenue” capable of forming mixed-use tourism urban areas, commercial-service centers, and high-class hotel-resort systems along the route. The Bai Truong area – one of the areas with the most tourism projects on the island – will directly benefit when DT.975 is completed, becoming a continuous tourism-event urban strip connecting from the airport to the south of the island. Thanks to its spacious, airy space and synchronized design, this road creates a large land fund suitable for developing international-class service and entertainment models, serving both tourists and APEC delegates.

3. 3. Creating international-standard reception and event spaces

The most important highlight of DT.975 in the context of APEC 2027 is the direct connection to the 3 km long, 68m wide APEC Avenue, planned as the main reception axis leading to the APEC Convention Center. When these roads are completed, Phu Quoc will have a modern, orderly delegate reception axis, ensuring a high-class experience right from their arrival at the airport. This connection not only meets the standards of a large-scale international event but also creates a professional, synchronized image of the island city's reception infrastructure, elevating Phu Quoc's position on the map of MICE destinations in Asia-Pacific.

Although strongly promoted to serve APEC 2027, the value of route DT.975 is not limited to this event. With a North-South route passing through important development structures such as Duong Dong – Cua Lap – Airport – Long Beach – An Thoi, this will be the "transport backbone" shaping the urban structure of Phu Quoc for many decades to come.

The route opens up opportunities for the development of modern public transportation systems, supporting population redistribution, connecting new urban areas, and enhancing access to resorts, commercial, and service areas. DT.975 is therefore expected to become a lever for the strategy to make Phu Quoc an international island city, a leading regional center for tourism – conferences – and marine economy.
