Phu Quoc LRT Line Phase 1 is invested in BOT form, by Sun Group Corporation as the investor, with a total capital of nearly 9,000 billion VND. The project will be rapidly implemented to be completed in Q2/2027, operating many months before the APEC 2027 event.
The LRT line is nearly 18 km long, running parallel to the 10-lane provincial road - DT 975. The road and urban train line will directly connect Phu Quoc International Airport to APEC Boulevard, leading straight to the APEC Convention and Exhibition Center, ensuring convenient connection for international events.
The LRT train in Phu Quoc runs underground, elevated, and at ground level, connecting from Phu Quoc International Airport to the APEC Convention and Exhibition Center.
The electric train line has a design speed of 70-100 km/h, with a capacity of 4,500 passengers per hour. Notably, the LRT system's route alignment is designed according to smart transportation standards, ensuring optimized travel speed and operational safety, with 0.78 km elevated, 14.81 km at ground level, and 2 km underground.
The line has a total of 6 stations, including 5 ground stations and 1 underground station located at the APEC Convention Center. The first station at the airport and the last station are equipped with 8m wide platforms to accommodate large passenger volumes, while intermediate stations have 6m wide platforms, suitable for the operational needs of each area. The airport station is located in the parking area for quick passenger access. All other stations are equipped with underground pedestrian tunnels connecting both sides of the road, integrating staircases, escalators, and elevators for people with disabilities. This design not only enhances passenger safety when accessing the electric train but also reflects the orientation of building a civilized, modern public transportation system that meets international service standards.
Both sides of the avenue are greened by tall rain trees, creating a modern, harmonious, and environmentally friendly landscape.
Sun Group Corporation is currently one of the largest infrastructure investors in Phu Quoc. Prior to the LRT project, the corporation was approved to invest in expanding Phu Quoc International Airport with the goal of increasing capacity to 50 million passengers per year, and the APEC Convention and Exhibition Center, the Multipurpose Performance Venue…
The emergence of the LRT (Light Rail Transit) system in Phu Quoc is expected to alleviate the rapidly increasing traffic pressure on the island. In recent years, the number of tourists visiting the island has continuously grown, leading to localized congestion on main roads, especially during peak seasons. The LRT model helps create a backbone transportation line, connecting functional areas without increasing personal vehicles. As a result, the city can gradually transition to a civilized, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly public transportation model. This is also one of the important criteria for Phu Quoc to move towards the goal of smart urban development, in line with the long-term vision that the special economic zone and An Giang province are pursuing.
Besides its significance in transportation, the LRT line is also expected to create a significant transformation in the tourism experience. With direct connectivity from the airport to resort complexes, entertainment areas, event squares, and convention centers, the LRT will become an ideal mode of transport for international travelers, who increasingly demand fast, stable, and safe mobility. Upon completion, the LRT line will contribute to creating an image of a modern, synchronized Phu Quoc, comparable to the operational standards of leading destinations in the region such as Singapore or Dubai.
