Phu Quoc International Airport Expansion Project
The aforementioned legal documents are issued based on legal grounds related to the management and operation of airports; decisions on the recovery, transfer of airport infrastructure assets, and the handover of assets in their original state to the operating enterprise. This is an important step in the roadmap to complete the new operating model for Phu Quoc International Airport – a strategic gateway infrastructure for Ngoc Island.
In early August 2025, the People's Committee of An Giang province issued a Decision assigning Sun Group's subsidiary, Sun Aviation Joint Stock Company, to lease land for the Phu Quoc International Airport Expansion Project. The project covers an area of over 800 hectares, meets ICAO 4E standards, and aims to increase capacity in Phase 1 to 20 million passengers per year. The Phu Quoc International Airport Expansion Project is one of five projects that are on schedule or ahead of schedule among the 21 priority projects being prepared for APEC 2027.

VIP terminal perspective. Phu Quoc's aviation infrastructure ready to serve APEC 2027
Sun Group Airport Joint Stock Company, along with relevant authorities, has urgently implemented key items, including runway number 2, international terminal T2, VIP terminal, apron expansion, and auxiliary infrastructure systems, as per the Government's directive during the working session on November 14, 2025.
The international airport is assigned to a private enterprise for direct management, operation, and exploitation. This model is expected to promote proactiveness and flexibility in operation, enhance investment efficiency, service quality, and the ability to meet the rapid growth demands of an international tourist destination like Phu Quoc.
Amidst the growing number of visitors to Phu Quoc, the airport frequently experiences overload; a new operating model will help Phu Quoc International Airport not only ensure stability and maintain absolute security and safety but also improve customer experience to meet international 5-star standards.
This is also an important step in creating a foundation for the Airport to be ready to meet future passenger growth demands and for Phu Quoc to be chosen as the destination for APEC 2027 , while being oriented for development into an international coastal city, a competitive regional tourism and service center.
