At the end of 1955, on the basis of Cay Dua Prison Camp on Phu Quoc Island, built by the French colonialists, the largest in Indochina at that time, the US and Puppet continued to establish a prison camp called Cay Dua Main Training Camp, also known as the Prison Camp. Cay Dua prison held nearly 1,000 prisoners of war and political prisoners. In 1967, they rebuilt it and named it the Vietnam/Phu Quoc Communist Prisoner Camp to detain and exile revolutionary soldiers on the largest scale and number in Vietnam. The prison area is about 400 hectares, divided into 12 zones, with nearly 500 prisons and at times in this prison, the enemy arrested and detained more than 40,000 loyal revolutionary soldiers. The enemy used all sorts of cruel, brutal tricks and barbaric torture to subdue the fighting will of the revolutionary soldiers. People called this place "Hell on Earth".
