According to The Straits Times, the list “Top 7 up-and-coming travel hotspots worth a visit in 2026” (translated as: 7 emerging destinations worth experiencing in 2026) focuses on new, less crowded destinations that offer the elements travelers particularly care about: accessibility, affordability, and diverse experiences. In that picture, Phu Quoc emerges as an ideal choice for spring trips or short getaways.

Located in southwestern Vietnam, Phu Quoc has an area of about 574 km² – equivalent to nearly 4/5 of Singapore's area, large enough to develop diverse forms of entertainment, cuisine, and resorts, while still preserving its natural beauty and local identity. The Straits Times commented: “Phu Quoc Island has all the elements to become an ideal weekend getaway.”

The Singaporean newspaper described Phu Quoc as a multi-layered experience destination, where visitors can easily find a balance between relaxation, entertainment, and exploration. In the South Island, the tourism ecosystem Sun Paradise Land is well-invested with pristine blue beaches, an amusement park, and Sunset Town – a destination that impresses with its colorful rows of European-style houses, creating a unique Mediterranean landscape in the tropics.

Notably, The Straits Times was impressed by the multimedia show Kiss of the Sea at Sunset Town - with the Guinness World Record for “World's Largest Outdoor Water Screen Theatre and Capacity”. The show made a strong impression with its storytelling elevated by diverse effects, from fire, water, light, music, to spectacular fireworks displays, helping the Jade Island become an internationally acclaimed destination.

Besides unique experiences, if you want to feel the local culture, the newspaper suggests tourists head to the Duong Dong area. Here, visitors can visit traditional fish sauce factories, pepper gardens, and local markets full of fresh seafood and produce. Phu Quoc cuisine is also highlighted as a prominent advantage, with signature dishes made from fresh seafood such as bun quay, steamed crab at seaside eateries.

The increasing attraction of Phu Quoc is also clearly shown through search metrics. According to Skyscanner, search volume for Phu Quoc from Singaporean users has increased by up to 184% compared to the same period last year, helping Pearl Island rank second on the list of trending destinations in 2026, only after Guiyang (China).

With advantages in location, scenery, experiences, and increasingly convenient air connectivity, The Straits Times commented that Phu Quoc is gradually asserting its position as an attractive emerging destination in Asia, not only for Singaporean tourists but also on the international tourism map in 2026.
