Phung Hung Fish Sauce Factory is one of the oldest and most renowned traditional fish sauce producers in Phu Quoc. With over 40 years of history, this establishment not only preserves the time-honored fish sauce-making methods but also serves as a fascinating destination for visitors interested in exploring local culture.
During a visit, guests can witness firsthand the fermentation process in massive wooden barrels reaching up to 4 meters high, made from bời lời wood – a special type found only in certain parts of southern Vietnam. Each barrel can hold 12 to 13 tons of anchovies and sea salt, fermented continuously for 12 to 15 months to produce the rich, flavorful fish sauce concentrate.
Beyond being a production site, Phung Hung also features a display and retail area where visitors can purchase authentic Phu Quoc fish sauce as souvenirs. You’ll also hear engaging stories about the traditional craft and its deep connection to Phu Quoc’s culinary culture.
