On the morning of May 19, at Phu Quoc City, the People's Committee of Kien Giang Province solemnly organized the inauguration ceremony of Uncle Ho's Monument and Ho Chi Minh Square.

Uncle Ho's Monument and Ho Chi Minh Square are located in Duong Dong Ward, Phu Quoc City, with a total area of 7.45 hectares. According to Kien Giang provincial leaders, the project has profound political, cultural, and historical significance, especially as a place to honor the great contributions of President Ho Chi Minh - who was recognized by UNESCO as a "hero of national liberation, a cultural celebrity of the world."

For the South, Uncle Ho always had a particularly deep and special affection. In his heart, there was always a Southern region that was the fortress of the Fatherland, going first and returning later... From this significance, Kien Giang province proposed to the Politburo, the Secretariat, and central agencies to choose "The South in my heart" as the theme for Uncle Ho's Monument and the bas-relief in Phu Quoc.

Uncle Ho's Monument is expressed through sculptural language that focuses on portraying and depicting the image of the great leader, national hero, and world cultural celebrity with simplicity, harmony, and closeness. The statue of Uncle Ho places his right hand on his left chest, expressing the deep affection that Uncle Ho had for the Southern compatriots through the saying "The South in my heart."

The square where Uncle Ho's Monument is placed has a scale of 7.45 hectares in the central urban area, commercial-service area, international passenger seaport, and new concentrated administrative area of Phu Quoc city - a place for recreation and entertainment for residents on the island.The statue of Uncle Ho is cast in bronze alloy, with a total height of 20.7 m (including: statue body 18 m high, statue base 0.3 m high, and pedestal 2.4 m high).

Behind the monument is a two-sided, embossed bas-relief, 63 m long, with the highest point at 10.8 m, sitting on a 1.2 m high base. The bas-relief consists of 484 white stone pieces joined together. Additionally, it is combined with a temple, an exhibition house about President Ho Chi Minh, a reception house, a square courtyard, and many other items to form a complex of works with great and profound political and cultural significance, of national and international importance.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Do Thanh Binh, Secretary of Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee, said that the Party Committee and people of Kien Giang province will do well in managing, preserving, and promoting the value of the project effectively and practically, so that this place becomes a destination for all domestic people and international friends when coming to Phu Quoc, Kien Giang, and Vietnam.
In his directive speech, Politburo Member, Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia expressed confidence and hope that the Party Committee, government, and people of Kien Giang province and Phu Quoc City will always be proud, cherish, care for, protect, and promote the value of Uncle Ho's Monument and Ho Chi Minh Square very well, worthy of the expectations of the people, the Party, and the State. The Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission also noted that it is necessary to thoroughly understand and raise awareness about the position, role, and importance of Phu Quoc associated with the development of Kien Giang province, the Mekong Delta region, the South, and the whole country.
