Dinh Cau, also known as Mieu Dinh Cau, is located at the heart of the island, in Duong Dong Town, and is considered one of the most intriguing destinations for visitors to Phu Quoc. It attracts attention not only because of its special location but also due to the mysterious legends surrounding this temple.
Currently, many fascinating myths about Dinh Cau are widely circulated among travelers from the South to the North. Most of these modern stories originate from the incorrect belief about the deity worshiped at the Long Vuong temple. These myths claim that the guardian spirit of Dinh Cau is "Cau Tai, Cau Qui." According to popular belief, Cau Tai and Cau Qui are passionate about gambling and cockfighting. Because of this belief, many gamblers from all over the country come to Dinh Cau to pray for good fortune.
Every year, during major holidays and the Lunar New Year, a large number of islanders and boat owners visit the temple. Especially on the 15th and 16th of the 10th lunar month, the festival is held, making Dinh Cau a major attraction for tourists. The temple draws over 100,000 visitors annually from both domestic and international locations to enjoy sightseeing, relaxation, beach activities, and to witness the expansive views of the sky and sea.
For over 300 years, Dinh Cau has been the site of many intriguing and mysterious stories passed down by fishermen. Dinh Cau also serves as a symbol of Phu Quoc, where the Sea, Sand, Sun, and Rocks blend together to create a picturesque scene. As the sky gradually turns a deep golden hue, the moments before nightfall are marked by the dark red colors of the sky, while the sparkling waves seem to glow like ruby crystals, offering a captivating experience for visitors to explore and discover.
