Phu Quoc Island - a precious gem of Vietnam, has received high praise from micenet, a leading MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) travel news website in Australia, New Zealand, and the region. In an analysis published on September 25, micenet noted that Phu Quoc possesses ideal conditions to become a leading MICE destination in Vietnam and increasingly attract the international community, with the involvement of major corporations such as Sun Group and Vinpearl.
Large-scale projects in Southern Phu Quoc Island are the main driving force behind the island's rise as a top destination for MICE tourism. Sunset Town, with its architecture blending Mediterranean influences and captivating local culture, has become the perfect stage for international events and iconic projects. Micenet was particularly impressed by the Kiss of the Sea multimedia show performed nightly (except Wednesdays) at Sunset Town. "It's a multimedia, multi-sensory show. Notably, the spectacular fireworks display at the end of the show can be viewed from anywhere in the town," micenet introduced.
The Kiss of the Sea show offers a multi-sensory experience with a capacity of up to 5,000 guests
With a grandstand design reminiscent of the Roman Colosseum and a three-dome stage resembling a surreal cosmic black hole, Kiss of the Sea is not only a visual highlight of Sunset Town but also a huge hall and stage to serve any MICE group with a large number of guests. "The maximum capacity can reach 5,000 people," micenet marveled at the scale of the Kiss of the Sea stage, while suggesting that MICE groups can request welcome messages on a special screen, entirely made of seawater.
Besides the Kiss of the Sea show, the Australian newspaper also listed other special experiences such as visiting the Love Bridge, restaurants in Vui Phet night market, and the Vietnamese puppet show at the A O Show theater. Notably, the world's longest three-cable cable car system departing from An Thoi station in Sunset Town to Hon Thom Island was also introduced, taking visitors to Sun World Hon Thom - home to Aquatopia, a top water park in Asia, and Exotica village amusement park with the unique and unparalleled Angry Cobra game in Vietnam.
In addition to diverse entertainment experiences at large-capacity outdoor venues, Southern Phu Quoc Island also boasts Vietnam's most modern MICE tourism infrastructure with a series of luxurious resorts. The resorts suggested by micenet are La Festa Phu Quoc - Curio Collection by Hilton and New World Phu Quoc Resort, each with its own strengths.
New World Phu Quoc Resort is a suitable choice for large groups and events
La Festa Phu Quoc – Curio Collection by Hilton is suitable for small MICE groups, with a maximum capacity of 197 rooms and two meeting rooms for small events. Meanwhile, New World Phu Quoc Resort is a more suitable choice for large groups and events, with 366 villas and conference rooms accommodating up to 800 guests. Notably, in October, the Sun Convention Center, managed by the New World brand, will be launched in Bai Kem area with a capacity of up to 1,000 guests. Additionally, the Australian newspaper also introduced Phu Quoc as home to numerous globally renowned hotel brands scattered across the island, including JW Marriott, InterContinental, Pullman, Regent, and Novotel.
“If small MICE groups prefer cocktails by the pool in the evening, larger groups can opt for Sun Signature Gallery – a space that serves as both an art exhibition and an ideal event venue,” micenet experts further introduced the diverse range of MICE events that can be held in Phu Quoc.
Located in the heart of Sunset Town, opposite La Festa Phu Quoc – Curio Collection by Hilton, the Sun Signature Gallery convention center, designed by renowned architect Bill Bensley, is a museum showcasing Bill Bensley’s extraordinary creations, preserving unique Mid Century Modern artistic values.
The main hall of Sun Signature Gallery can accommodate up to 1,000 people
A highlight is the ballroom with a capacity of up to 1,000 people, featuring significant investment in technology and high aesthetics. The ballroom can be adapted for various event types, from classes and workshops accommodating up to 1,000 people, cocktail parties for approximately 800 people, and dinner parties for around 550-600 people. Furthermore, the ballroom at Sun Signature Gallery is equipped with an advanced lighting system with intelligent control, enabling flexible 360-degree light direction. The high-end sound and screen systems meet the standards for hosting any professional art or entertainment program.
According to micenet research, in the first six months of the year, the number of visitors to Phu Quoc increased by 135% compared to the same period in 2023. The island still faces some challenges, such as a lack of direct flights from European and Oceanian countries, relying on Ho Chi Minh City as the main gateway, leading businesses to believe that Phu Quoc still struggles to attract MICE tourists from Western countries.
However, the efforts of businesses paint a bright picture for the island’s future tourist attraction. “For the Australian market, Sun World is collaborating with travel companies, OTAs, Vietnam Airlines, and VietJet Air through fam trips to Phu Quoc Island and roadshows in Australia,” said Nguyen Tuan Anh, General Director of Sun World Hon Thom, regarding the solutions.
